Automatic linking to new titles ordered
I know this idea has been discussed before but can't find it as an 'idea' as it would be a very valuable and time-saving feature for Aspire to recognise when an item bookmarked from Amazon, for example, is ordered and becomes available from the Library or is in fact already in the Library. Academics won't want to go back in to a list and bookmark and add new titles to their list neither will library staff .

If the user bookmarks an item from Amazon that is already in the library catalogue, Aspire should already link to the catalogue record. That feature has been added after this original idea was raised.
We’re likely to implement the remainder of this idea (identifying previously unavailable items) as a report in the MIS roadmap theme.

Add an alternative resource
Was used frequently in TL2 both by academic and library staff to provide information on alternative formats and editions.

Export list as printable document (e.g. txt, rtf, doc, pdf)
From an academic ...
At the risk of becoming unpopular...I would like to be able to use the online reading list to populate a module handbook - but this new version does not have an easily copyable format.

hide section
Currently there is no option to hide/unhide sections of lists, we would like to see the option to allow gradual release of lists, and to publish those sections which are ready before a list is complete.

Recent Changes Dynamic Link
At the moment clicking on the "Recent Changes" link to see the changes that a tutor has made to a list leads to a static link with a "Description" (e.g. "3 items added"). Could this link be made dynamic so that we can see which items have been added, etc?

Tag items
Is it possible to be able to tag / mark items as 'Electronic Resource' for online journal articles and e-books etc and then be able to re-group the list to display all electronic resources together?

Organising 'My Bookmarks'
It is becoming really important for our academics to be able to organise their bookmarks. We know tags are the currnet thinking with filters- but some academics have a mental block against this. They are so used to having very structured resources/citations and without the ability to oraganise and sort (things like author- title- date- type- notes/modules ....) the resources within their 'library'

We are currently refactoring the My Bookmarks screen to work in a way that allows users to sort and filter more effectively. Although this won’t include tagging or sorting yet, it does provide the framework for further options in this area.

Manual entry - fields appear automatically according to resource type selected
Would be helpful, when using manual add, if once you had selected the resource type, a standard set of entry fields could appear automatically, as appropriate to the type of resource, e.g. for article, 'author', 'page numbers', 'part of' & for journals, 'volume', 'date' etc.

Search by list owner
It would be helpful as sometimes the only information we have is the lecturer's name and subject area

Just an update on this. User profiles has been implemented and we still intend on introducing this search capability, however we came across some technical challenges. We have decided to defer the implementation of this solution until we can take advantage of the database infrastructure work which is scheduled in the roadmap. This will allow us to implement a more user friendly solution. We don’t anticipate a great demand for the feature if we were to implement itnow due to the time of year, we do however aim to have it implemented by the time students are ready to use it.

Default 'Note' field for library guidance to students
Recent discussions around Bookmarking items following the Aspire release posting of 29th September led to the idea of having a set of 'default' notes that library staff could use to provide further information about items on a list. For example, 'Licensed for use only by students registered on this course' is one that we regular use (currently adding this in the Study note field).
Ian pointed out that ideally the Study Note should stay as such, for use by tutors to guide students learning and I am in agreement with this. So, it would be useful to have a set… more

Extending the Bookmarklet's coverage
The extension of the number of publishers, platforms and online services with which the Bookmarklet is compatible will be a key requisite for widespread academic adoption, and I've a number of suggestions:
1) Customers should be able to view a domain level report, filterable by time span, of the 'most popular' domain sources of Bookmarked items in their tenancy
2) Customers should try to agree a priority list of publishers and platforms to assist Talis in identifying the priorities for the expansion of the Bookmark's coverage
3) Talis should publish (for customers) a guide indicating how the Bookmark works on… more

Although we’re not implementing the exact specification that Richard describes here, we are putting some major effort into improving the coverage of the bookmarklet, with a major theme for this area for Q3/Q4 2011. Report a problem (with this resource)
When users click on a broken link, they should have the option of reporting the problem. "Report a problem (with this resource)" which, when taken, should include the link and basic metadata for the resource with the option for the user to provide usual name/email/description information.

Make the bookmarklet into an open FireFox add-on.
Replace the bookmarklet with an open FF add-on, in a smililar manner to libX. If this were to happen, small library systems teams could add simple configs / scripts that recognised the resources being browsed by the academic and then extract necessary urls, encode them or inset proxy domains however the local institution operates. Then we could push updated configs out the academics as a new version when they open their browser. This would give a little more freedom to Talis customers who have the ability to make developments so that librarians do not need to make manual entries into… more

Acquisitions - introduce the idea of 'states'
To enable the Acquisitions Library Review process to support more complex workflows, it could be extremely useful to introduce the idea of 'states' (or similar) to lists under Review. Customers could select how many 'states' their workflow necessitates and what labels they wish to attach to 'State 1', 'State 2' and so on (e.g. 'Liaison Librarian review', 'Link checking', 'Acquisitions processing' etc). Lists submitted for review could arrive in 'State 1' and then be moved to 'State 2', 'State 3' as this review process progresses. The view of lists under Review could then be filtered according to State (e.g. 'Show… more

Extend the Copy to my bookmarks function
Enable academics to copy an entire list worth of bookmarks from an existing list to their bookmarks folder.
Really useful where lists have been created by admin or library staff and then passed on to the academic to manage.15 votes -
Update (e-)book entries to the latest edition
Unless otherwise specified, we ensure that our online reading lists always point to the latest version of books and e-books we hold in stock. At the moment, it is necessary to manually replace each link with a new one pointing to the catalogue record for the new edition.
It would save a lot of time and effort if when item were added to a list it was possible to opt for it to update to newer editions of the same item when these are added to stock, perhaps by Aspire running an overnight title/author search of the catalogue for all… more

Unpublish a list
It would be really useful to have an option for list editors to temporarily 'unpublish' their lists so that they are hidden from public view (any one searching for a list would get a "Sorry this list is temporarily unavailable" message). This would be helpful while lecturers are updating lists (and may not want the previous version visible), if a course is not running for a period of time and a number of other reasons.

New legal and law resources types
We bookmark a lot of law cases and reports. But currently there does not seem to be a suitable description for them under Resource Type. Is it possible to have Resource Types 'LegalCaseDocument ' and 'Legislation'? This will make much more sense to users instead of bookmarking a law report as a web page or an article. Thank you.
